Car of the Year 2024: Renault Scenic E-Tech
Recently, the winner of the most important car award was announced. The winning car make might already be used to winning this prize – the French car manufacturer Renault. The Renault Scenic E-Tech, a family car with modern features, high comfort and a very high range of over 600, is a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y. The website Auto Express (2023) claims that the new Renault Scenic E-Tech outperforms the Tesla Model Y in terms of price and range.
It is worth mentioning that as of 2024 the price of both the Scenic and Model Y are fairly equal and are priced at around €44,000 but the Renault Scenic E-Tech indeed surpasses the Tesla as far as its range is concerned: it can do around 620 km compared to 450km of the Range-Powertrain of the Tesla Model Y.
The Scenic E-Tech is Renault’s second EV (Electric Vehicle), following its smaller brother, the Renault Megane. The first Renault Scenic was launched in 1996 and Renault has improved its design, comfort, technology and – most importantly – its safety. Interestingly, the name “scenic” was not chosen randomly. It stands for “safety concept embodied in a new innovative car”. This means that the Renault Scenic is specifically designed to be a safe family car with modern technology and a rather sporty spirit.
The Renault Scenic E-Tech was one of the seven finalists for the Car-Of-The-Year-Award, alongside with BMW 5-Series, BYD Seal, Kia EV6, Peugeot E-3008/3008, Toyota C-HR and Volvo EX30. Finally, the Renault Scenic E-Tech was named “Best Car of The Year 2024” by a jury of 59 motoring journalists.
